90 visitors, strong performance of speakers Sep 30, 2017

A resounding success. With more than 90 visitors and a strong performance of the speakers with lively participation of the audience, this conference shows that the translation sphere in Belarus has gained sufficient critical mass to justify a yearly translation forum exceeding the capacity a regular Powwow can offer.

Thanks for your words and coming, Max!

The Belarusian community of Translators and Interpreters decided to celebrate the International Translation Day in a very unusual way: to have a formal meeting (Forum of Translators & Interpreters of Belarus) with an informal after-party.

On September 30, 2017 82 translators and interpreters of Belarus came together to get to know each other, share their best practices and discuss common problems.

Date and place of the event: 30.09.2017 at the conference hall of the Goethe Institute in Minsk.
Target audience: freelance translators, in-house translators, and teachers of translation and interpretation disciplines from Belarus.
Main goal was to meet the colleagues, communicate, discuss common problems and shape plans for the future.

It was a free event supported by the Goethe-Institut in Belarus.
There were 6 talks based on personal experience prepared by Belarusian freelance translators and interpreters.
Two talks were held in Belarusian language and 6 -- in Russian. Two speeches were devoted to interpreting and four -- to translation.
Topics and speakers:
1. Interpreting at a higher level or tourist guide: which alternative is the best? (Anastasia Semashko)
2. Relations between translators and editors (Katsiaryna Sokolovskaya)
3. I am a freelance translator in Belarus and I love my job (Olga Budaj)
4. To young freelance translators: how do I stand out? (Yuliya Tsimashenka)
5. Belarusian language in the industry of commercial translations (Vitali Stanisheuski)
6. Why do clients stop using services of an interpreter? (Denis Shoot).

Before the event, the speakers sent their video messages with short information about themselves and the subject.

The atmosphere was very friendly and warm. The after-party was in the restaurant In Vino near to the forum venue.
Thanks to all attendees for coming!
