Source text - English While SMP takes its cue from the goals established during the LRP process, it usually involves line managers who make target market selection, establish next year’s objectives, develop strategies, and then correlate tactical plans and a budget that will direct and control next year’s marketing activities.
Since nearly all direct marketing companies, other than the most entrepreneurial firms in their startup years, attempt to plan operations 6 to 9 months in advance (simply because direct-response creative development and production require such lead times), there are two fundamental reasons why such planning should be strategic in nature. First, the operational planning must be done anyway. Second, operational plans that are rooted in effective strategic thinking not only catapult profit levels, but also point out otherwise unseen disaster areas. it does not matter what size a direct marketer is. SMP is an imperative for realizing the profit potentials that are inherent in the degree of change expected for the 1990s - a degree of change that Alvin Toffler calls "the third wave" - which will make that of the 1970s and 1980s seem small in retrospect.
Translation - Romanian În timp ce SMP ia modelul scopurilor stabilite în timpul procesului de LRP, acesta (SMP) implică de obicei managerii de linie (line managers) care selectează piaţa ţintă, stabilesc obiectivele anului următor, elaborează strategii şi apoi corelează planurile tactice cu un buget care va direcţiona şi controla activităţile de marketing ale anului următor.
Din moment ce aproape toate companiile de marketing direct, în afară de majoritatea firmelor antreprenoriale aflate la anii lor de început, încearcă să planifice operaţii cu 6 până la 9 luni înainte (doar din cauză că dezvoltarea creativă cu răspuns direct şi producţia necesită aceste perioade planificate), există două motive fundamentale pentru care acest tip de planificare ar trebui sa fie de natură strategică. Primul, acela că planificarea operaţională oricum trebuie făcută. Al doilea, că planurile operaţionale care îşi trag originea din gândirea strategică nu numai că ridică foarte mult nivelul profitului, dar arată şi zone de dezastru nerelevate prin alte metode. Nu are importanţă ce dimensiune are firma de marketing direct. SMP este un element strict necesar pentru fructificarea profitului potenţial care este atribuit nivelului schimbarii asteptate pentru anii 1990 - un nivel de schimbare pe care Alvin Toffler îl numeşte "al treilea val"- nivel care îl va face pe acela din anii 1970 şi 1980 să pară mic, dacă privim înapoi.
