Hi,

The new IATE has landed in November 2018 and now I can't find out how to edit Web Search settings so that it shows me the search results in my language combination instead of IATE's home page. Can anyone help me with that?

Thanks in advance,

J. Calzado

Does not seem to work Nov 15, 2018

It seems that they decided to stop using GET requests for their queries, so IATE URLs no longer use query strings (the key-value pairs after a question mark in a URL). So, compatibility is broken for all web search tools that rely on such URLs.

Tool makers can still access IATE and get results, of course. But no longer by 'hacking' URLs. They need to do it in a RESTful* manner.

* REST = REpresentational State Transfer

What a pity! Nov 15, 2018

I was fearing something of the sort. Well, thanks for letting me know. I hope coders can solve it in next memoQ releases.

Thanks for the info!

One possibility is to find a website that imported IATE data and still allows a search via URL query strings. An example of such website is Termania; if you want to search for "European union", query string looks like this:

https://www.termania.net/iskanje?ld=188&sic=false&allq=&phrq=European%20union&anyq=&Languages=2&AllDictionaries=false&dictionaries=188

There are 2 problems with this website:
- it's not possible to define target language
- the data are from 2016.

I hope that somebody will find (or develop) something more versatile.

New new IATE ;-) Dec 5, 2018

A new website appeared where it is explained how to get the data from the new IATE by fiddling the URL:

http://iate2.cdt.europa.eu/developers

You can figure out how to use it with memoQ Web Search by looking at the examples presented on this website.

Thanks, Miran. Your link does not work, but I did see the notice in IATE portal where it explains it (https://iate.europa.eu/developers). Great news!

For EN>ES combination, I wrote the following under 'Search URL' in memoQ and it worked:

http://iate.europa.eu/search/byUrl?term={}&sl=en&tl=es

J. Calzado
