من حسن الحظ أم من سوئه لا أدري ما أقول أنَّ دكان حارة الساري يقع في الشق الأيمن من الحارة. وبما أني أصبحت رجلا في الخامسة والنصف من عمره فكنت أنا من يذهب إلى دكان العم "علي الشاكر" لأشتري ما تريده أمي وهالة من الدكان. أحيانا تلحقني هدى وهبة أو إحداهما، وأحيانا أكون وحيدا في تلك المهمة. في إحدى المرات عندما خرجت من الدكان أحاط بي ثلاثة شباب من شباب الشق الأيمن من الحارة، أرادوا ممازحتي. أحدهم فيصل الشاكر ابن العم علي الشاكر، والآخر محمد الشافعي، والثالث ياسين الجنكري، سألني فيصل الشاكر:
- سلامة الزين، نريد أن نتمطوع ..."نعتنق الدين الجديد" ...ماذا علينا أن نفعل؟
أجبت بكل براءة الطفولة:
- لا تسمعوا الأغاني، لا تشاهدوا المسلسلات في التلفاز، تطيلون لحاكم، وتقصرون ثيابكم.
