Catalan term or phrase: confessional
This from a text looking at human rights in the Mediteranean area and how religion influeces it. Below is my rough draft. I am not sure if this is related to confessionalization (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Confessionalization) or if this is more general use.

"El retorn de les religions revesteix especial complexitat i no admet una explicació monocausal, sinó que hi han pogut confluir diversos factors. Vet aquí alguns:
- L'acceleració il•limitada dels avenços científics en tots els camps i, molt especialment, en el de la biogenètica, planteja dubtes ètics. En aquests casos s'acostuma a recórrer a la religió per trobar criteris ètics que permetin discernir els esmentats avenços. Hi ha, per exemple, una forta i intensa presència confessional de caràcter cristiana en el naixement, desenvolupament i control de la bioètica."


Rough draft:

We see a strong, intense confessional presence of a Christian character in the birth, development and control of bioethics, for example.

Explanation:
Confessional here simply refers to "of a faith" I think, rather than the act of confessing. I'd rephrase the whole sentence as follows:

"For example, behind criticism of the origin, development and control of the bioethics field field there is a powerful ethic at work which owes its origins to Christianity".


This would also get rid of the awkward sounding structure in a more literal approach, as well as the redundancy of "strong/intense".
