Czech term

malovaný příborník s bezpečnostní ohrádkou

Czech to English Tech/Engineering Furniture / Household Appliances
Součástí originálního vybavení jsou kachlová kamna z doby okolo roku 1585, vyřezávané stříbřené lustry a malovaný příborník s bezpečnostní ohrádkou, jediný svého druhu na našem území.

This is a Renaissance item of furniture. I can't picture what this "bezpečnostní ohrádka" is. It doesn't seem a likely place for a playpen.

Discussion

Dylan Edwards (asker) Jan 23:
I see some Renaissance credenzas have wooden pillars at the front. These don't amount to a fence, but they're the nearest I've seen to anything that could be called "bezpečnostní ohrádka".
Dylan Edwards (asker) Jan 23:
Unfortunately there are no pictures accompanying the text. A picture would really help in this case!

Peer comment(s):

agree Markéta Marešová : I would just say only "hand-painted..."

neutral Stuart Hoskins : I think sideboard as a term didn't come in until later (Baroque?). My bet for the Renaissance is on a foreign word like dressoir or credenza. And I think it will probably be "guard" rather than "fence". Do you have a pic, Dylan?
