Figure 11. The Programat 200 Furnace was used for firing the stain and glaze together for 16 minutes.

The restoration was placed onto a firing stand and into the oven (Programat 200, Ivoclar Vivadent), which fired the restoration under vacuum for only 16 minutes (Figure 11).

Applying the Opaque

When applying the opaque it is important to apply a thin “wash coat” whether you are using powder, paste or spray. This first layer will create a strong bond for the ceramic to the metal for the main opaque firing, as well as the subsequent layers of porcelain that will follow.

Building Up the Restoration

In a similar pattern we will want to do some type of wash coat of our body ceramic to facilitate a strong bond between our opaque and our porcelain buildup. Again, this should be tailored to the type of porcelain we are using and you should follow the instructions specific to that particular product. When you are happy with your ceramic wash coat you can begin to build the restoration.

Opaque Firing

The opaque materials are offered as opaque pastes in material saving cans. If the paste settles, the original consistence can be restored by simple stirring.

1. FIRING CIRCLE (Wash firing):
Apply the first opaque layer with a flat brush which is slightly moistened with opaque liquid (remove excess) onto the thoroughly cleaned or oxidized metal frame respectively, so that complete cover of the metal is achieved with about 70% layer coverage (do not suck off).
After the opaque layering, put the crown or bridge onto the furnace table and pre-dry for 6 - 8 min at open furnace. Then close the furnace (basic temperature 400 °C) and heat furnace to 820 °C with 55 °C/min and vacuum from 450 °C on.
Holding time: 2 min without vacuum.
2. FIRING CIRCLE:
Apply the second opaque layer to complete coverage. The second firing circle is performed accordingly to the first firing circle.

Apply the Wash in a thin, covering coat on the entire framework.

Conduct the Wash firing (foundation) on a honey-comb firing tray belonging to the furnace (see firing parameters on page 65).

It seems:

wash firing = firing of a wash layer

Wash firing (foundation) for preshaded and unshaded ZrO2 frameworks

The restoration must be free from dirt and grease before the wash firing is done. Prevent any contamination after cleaning.
Conduct the Wash firing with IPS e.max Ceram or IPS Ivocolor and IPS e.max Ceram materials.

The low heat conductivity of zirconium oxide always requires a Wash firing, even if a ZirLiner firing was conducted beforehand. The Wash firing ensures controlled sintering of the ceramic onto the framework
surface and thus enables a homogeneous bond. Moreover, shade and fluorescence adjustments can be carried out with the Wash firing (e.g. sprinkle technique), for example, by using IPS Ivocolor Shade, Essence or Glaze (FLUO).

Variant A: Wash firing with IPS e.max Ceram

If there is an ideal amount of space available, conduct the Wash firing with the required IPS e.max Ceram Deep Dentin, Dentin, Transpa Incisal and/or Impulse material. Use the IPS Build-Up Liquids allround or soft to mix the materials.
Apply the Wash in a thin, covering coat on the entire framework.

Conduct the Wash firing (foundation) on a honey-comb firing tray belonging to the furnace (see firing parameters on page 65).

Je kunt in hetzelfde document informatie over Stain and Glaze firing vinden.

Stain and Glaze firing

The Stain firing is conducted with IPS Ivocolor Shade and/or Essences and the Glaze firing with IPS Ivocolor Glaze Powder/
FLUO or IPS Ivocolor Glaze Paste/FLUO. Depending on the situation, the firing cycles may be conducted together or separately. The firing parameters are identical.

Thoroughly clean the restoration with the steam jet and dry with oil-free air.

Mix IPS Ivocolor Shades and Essences with the corresponding IPS Ivocolor Liquids to the desired consistency.

For better wettability of the stains and glazing materials, the surface can be wetted with a little IPS Ivocolor Mixing Liquid.

Apply Glaze material in an even layer on the entire restoration. The basal area near the pontic should be given particular attention.

Conduct the Stain and Glaze firing on a honey-comb firing tray belonging to the furnace (see firing parameters on
page 65).
