Dear Tony M, thanks for letting me know. I did not know that i had to indicate this fact. will do for future questions
gai20 (asker) May 2, 2014:
will it be better if the sentence is rearranged as : Le cancer est une affaire de chiffres et peut être plus que toute autre maladie
Tony M May 2, 2014:
@ Asker Teacher? Does that indicate this is taken from school/college work or an assignment? If so, you know there is a box you are supposed to check to indicate this fact, in order to warn prospective answerers.

Dear writeaway, thank you very much for your suggestion.
i translated the same way but my teacher told me that it is too literal.
le cancer, plus que toute autre maladie , est une affaire de chiffres.

You are native English and native French so what are your own suggestions? Is there a specific problem?

Le cancer, peut-être + que toute autre maladie, est une question de chiffres

Your question will probably be removed because it does not conform to the rules. Enjoy while you can.

"

Last year Andrew Jackson became another cancer statistic. At the age of 56 he was diagnosed with tumours in his prostate gland and given a 50-60 per cent chance of a cure by his consultant radiologist.

Andrew was one of about 35,000 men in Britain who in 2012 were told they had prostate cancer. What he really wanted to know was whether he would become one of the 11,000 men who die each year of the disease. He has a 40-50 per cent chance of falling into that statistical bin.

Cancer, perhaps more than any other disease, is a game of numbers. Anyone newly diagnosed wants to know their chances of surviving an illness that will affect one in every three people at some point in their lives. Some 11 million people in the world are diagnosed each year with cancer, and 7 million die of the disease."

Le cancer, plus que tout autre maladie, est une question de probabilité

Hi,
This is just a suggestion to sound less literal.
Please check with the context.

Le cancer, peut-être bien plus que toute autre maladie, est une affaire de chiffres

Je crois qu'il est plus naturel d'ajouter "bien" et de dire "bien plus que toute autre maladie" et de maintenir "peut-être" à sa position initiale.
