***From the difficult roots***, the teachings are still useful.
My father said, "When we leave, we will leave with empty pockets.
You will leave only two things behind:
How you treated Mother Nature and how you treated people."

Dit par une personne qui a souffert de la misère étant enfant et qui connaît maintenant le succès à l'âge adulte.

disagree  Daryo: How are you going to make the whole sentence with this? That's what's ALWAYS implicitely asked I.e. the proposed translation must be usable in the specific ST not in some undefined vacuum.

  -> That's not what she asked, only the beginning of the sentence was blocking her. I just tried to help thru my suggestion. And honestly, I don't agree with the one you agreed, the structure of the suggested sentence sounds heavy-handed to me

disagree  Daryo: On its own or in some other sentence - maybe. But how you are going to make this fit with the rest of this sentence?

  -> Well, you could make work or reword it at will -- Les enseignements sont encore utiles, malgré le fait que ses origines étaient si difficiles

agree  Daryo: I was about to propose something similar. Yes, you have to look at the whole sentence, otherwise you end up with a useless translation - won't fit with the rest.

  -> Thanks Daryo :-)

disagree  Florian PLATEL: The style sounds heavy-handed to me... And, Daryo, we're not supposed to do other people's job, we're here to help, not necessarily translate the whole stuff. Where's your suggestion by the way ? It's so easy to criticize everyone...
