I found the following link:

...on page 3 there is an explanation of "line following methods" for robots(in sensors). The middle example is "LINE SEARCH". If this is the same underlying principle, couldn't something like:

"חיישן עוקב קו" (Line tracking sensor) be a possibility...I know I've moved away from חיפוש but I just thought it is a possible tangent.

Unfortunately I can't find any pre-existing entries for my little neologism which is one reason why I'm not posting this as an answer, as it may be complete codswallop :-)
