כיום, מוגדרים שני סוגים של הפרעות התנהגות בילדות וההתבגרות, הנבדלים זה מזה בחומרתם ובפגיעה התפקודית אליה הם מביאים:

* הפרעת התנגדות (Oppositional defiant disorder): הפרעה המתבטאת בעוינות, היעדר צייתנות, ווכחנות והצקות חוזרות ונשנות לסביבה. ההפרעה עשויה להתפתח ולהפוך להפרעת התנהגות.

* הפרעת התנהגות
