難題(nandai) / 頑固(ganko)

Explanation:
It depends how you use this phrase.
I believe 難題 is better for "hard issue", and 頑固 for "person who is stubborn" . 頑固親父(ganko oyaji) is used for older male, and 頑固爺さん(ganko jiisan) for elder male.
頑固じじい(ganko jijii - maile) 頑固ばばあ (ganko babaa - female) are used for both case but much nasty.

Ganko(-mono)(頑固、頑固者)Henkutsu(偏屈)Gogyo(-mono. -ppari) (強情者、強情っ張り)

Explanation:
If you are using this phrase to describe a person, these are the synonyms.
If you are describing issues or problems, "Nandai" would be the best bet.

Sorry.... I should have spelled "Gojo," instead of "Gogyo"

@asker: Take your pick. All three are standard Japanese length.

Asker: Hello, thank you for the link. Is there a shorter way to say the term you posted?
