We call a square matrix A ill-conditioned if it is invertible but can become non-invertible (singular) if some of its entries are changed ever so slightly. The condition number of A is a measure of how ill-conditioned A is and can be found using A and A-1. The bigger the condition number is the more ill-conditioned A is. Well-conditioned matrices have condition numbers close to 1.

“O matrice pătratică A se numește prost condiționată dacă este inversabilă dar poate deveni neinversabilă (singular) dacă unele dintre numere(valori) se schimbă câtuși de puțin. Numărul de condiție al matricii A este măsura acesteia și poate fi găsit folosind A și A-1 (Inversa). Cu cât este mai mare numărul de condiție cu atât este mai prost condiționată matricea A. Matricile bine condiționate au numărul de condiție apropiat de 1.”
