English term

proof of death certificate

English to Spanish Social Sciences Social Science, Sociology, Ethics, etc. Death certificate

Veamos:
https://alternacremation.ca/9/Death-Certificates.html
What is a death certificate?
There are two documents that are often called “death certificates”, and these two documents are often confused:
The first document, called “funeral director’s statement of death” or a “proof of death certificate”, can be issued by funeral directors.
The second document, called a “death certificate” is issued by Vital Statistics (in Manitoba). This certificate usually takes several months to obtain. The confusion between these two documents can sometimes lead people to request a provincial death certificate when it isn’t required. In the next section, we’ll illuminate some scenarios in which medical death certificates are required.

There are 2 documents commonly referred to as a death certificate, both of which are vitally important. The first, the Medical Certificate of Death, is a legal document that confirms that a death has taken place. It includes the cause of death and associated medical information. Some families find that it can provide peace of mind but generally, it isn’t a necessary document to have for day-to-day matters. The second is the Proof of Death Certificate which is signed by a licensed funeral director and used to notify companies and organizations of a death.

When is a Proof of Death Certificate Needed?
A proof of death certificate serves the following purposes:
• If the family wishes to claim the deceased’s life insurance, they will need to produce the proof of death certificate. This is to make sure they are not attempting to commit fraud by claiming on a policy unlawfully. It is important to note that some insurance companies will require the Medical Certificate of Death for this purpose, when the claim requires confirmation on the cause of death.
• In the same right, the proof of death certificate needs to be present in order for the family to handle the deceased’s estate.
• The proof of death certificate will also need to be presented when dealing with any remaining bank accounts or outstanding memberships.
• The family will make use of the proof of death certificate to secure death benefits through the government. Basic Funerals will supply you with these forms along with the certificates.

Thank you, Jennifer!
The first document, called “funeral director’s statement of death” or a “proof of death certificate”, can be issued by funeral directors."

Gracias!
neutral Andrew Bramhall : Why would a funeral director need to issue a " statement of death"?? -if the person wasn't dead, they wouldn't have ended up in a funeral home in the first place!- completely illogical.

If you read my reference you can find several reasons.

Difference between Medical Certificate of Death and Proof of Death Certificate in Ontario

There are two documents commonly referred to as a death certificate in Ontario; however, they have two different uses. One is called a Medical Certificate of Death. The second is called a Proof of Death Certificate. The latter has three variations.

What is a Proof of Death Certificate?

Proof of death

The funeral director will issue copies of proof of death that you can use in certain situations. This version of a death certificate can be used to settle an estate, to apply for some insurance benefits. It can also be used to close out a health card, cancel a driver’s license or pension benefit, or remove someone from a voter’s list.
