English term or phrase: maximum probabilities
The estimated range of medians obtained for log-normal distributions (see last column of Table 1.4–7) includes the values corresponding to the maximum probabilities calculated for normal distribution; therefore, these ranges could be treated as representing our real knowledge of the releases

Notes to answerer
Asker: Yes. I do know that probability is a branch of mathematics but your suggestion doesn't clarify the meaning of "maximum probability " for me. You have merely suggested a very similar synonym. I think I need more explanations rather than synonyms. However, thanks for your time.

maximum probabilities

Explanation:
It is not clear whether this is plural because a number of parameters were measured or because a number of tests on different samples were conducted to measure the same parameter. Possibly, "estimated range of medians obtained for log-normal distributions" indicates the latter.

The use of the term "maximum probabilities", rather than "results giving the highest probability" is used and that these fall within the "estimated range of medians" is somewhat confusing and there may be something within the rest of the document that sheds light on this and whether it is correct.

In any event, the substitution of "likelihood" for "probability" is wrong.

Apologies: I meant to delete "is used" above, please do so mentally as the system doesn't let me go back to delete it.

OK, looking at your reference link:

"a statistical method for estimating population parameters (as the mean and variance) from sample data that selects as estimates those parameter values maximizing the probability of obtaining the observed data"

That sounds awfully like choosing whatever result you want and dressing it up as statistics!
