Finnish term

tasosekoittaja (chemistry)

Finnish to English Other General / Conversation / Greetings / Letters
What is a "tasosekoittaja" (or "tasosekoitin") in the context of a chemistry lab?

I've tried to see if "level mixer" is a term used in chem lab contexts in English, but I've found no convincing support for this so far.

Thanks

Pertti Hietaranta May 17, 2018:
Horizontal pan mixers indeed seem to be frequently used in contexts related to construction and building industry, but there are also examples of cases where chemistry-related and other than heavy duty uses are mentioned, cf. e.g. http://www.esquiremachines.com/other-products/pan-mixers-ref... Anyway, I hope you find a solution to your quandary.
G. L. (asker) May 17, 2018:
So far, most examples of "pan mixer" that I've found involve the mixing of concrete, and similar industrial applications. The context in which I found "tasosekoittaja" was a text from a biochem lab that didn't seem to be doing any such heavy operations -- the text spoke of buffers, antibodies, spot tests, etc.

So, while "horizontal pan mixer" is one way of translating "tasoseoittin"/"-sekoittaja", I'm still skeptical that that is the right term to use here.

Thank you to those who have answered so far.

The recommended form is actually "tasosekoitin" since instrument designations in Finnish typically end in -in whereas words ending in -aja/äjä usually denote human actors (the ones who operate the instruments).
Note from asker:
Thanks. "tasosekoittaja" (with -ja rather than -in) is the term that I found in the text I was working on, so that's how I titled the thread..
