Flemish to English translations [PRO]
Bus/Financial - Ships, Sailing, Maritime / ports
Flemish term or phrase: Kuiperij

This is rather specific to the Port of Anwerp. Evidently they don't use barrels any more so what exactly would they be doing. I assume stouwerij is stevedoring.

'CEPA has its own motivated, highly trained and experienced safety experts. These experts continually keep their skills up to date by means of study days and specialist courses. Each safety expert also has a particular specialisation related to one of eight particular target groups or fields of safety, namely: container terminals, breakbulk, **cooperage,** warehouses, technical services, Seveso, ro/ro and bulk.
Practical safety courses are also organised in the port.' (http://www.sustainableportofantwerp.com/en/content/people/ac... )

Oxforddictionaries.com:

cooperage:

1. a cooper’s business or premises

1.1 the making of barrels and casks

Usage examples:

'Barrel making, known as cooperage, is an art form that is practiced by a small handful of craftsman around the world, which is surprising considering how vital it is to the wine and spirit markets.'

'We're even running out of traditional cooperage skills to ‘raise up’ the barrels imported from American whiskey and Spanish sherry production.'

COMPARE THIS WITH THE QUOTE ABOVE (ALSO FROM THE PORT OF ANTWERP WEBSITE):

(http://www.duurzamehavenvanantwerpen.be/nl/content/people/pr... )
