Happy Boxing Day to whoever is having one and greetings anyone else!

How would you translate commissaire des armées for UK friends, please?

This is basically about managing the daily life of the military and managing a regiment on a daily basis : Il exerce des fonctions d’encadrement, de conception et de direction dans le droit, les ressources humaines, l’audit, le management des systèmes d’information, la logistique, le management des organisations en santé, le management des programmes d’armement, l’aide à la décision, les finances, les achats et le management des organisations de restauration/hébergement/loisirs.

I know from personal experience that in practice, they can also deal with payroll and welfare issues the military in their regiment may have, wrong equipment sent to their regiment, moving the military's personal belongings from one base to the other, making sure local food is delivered when the regiment is sent overseas, bref, anything not directly related to actual fighting.

More official info here: https://www.defense.gouv.fr/commissariat/recrutement/devenir... (don't waste time clicking on the "English" tab.)

I tried the website of the UK Defence Secretary but couldn't find anything suitable. Defence Equipment and Support (https://www.gov.uk/government/organisations/defence-equipmen... appears to be more about "force-wide" procurement and logistics, whereas commissaires des armées are really "regiment-based" managers.

"Quartermaster" also turned up in my research (e.g. https://www.britannica.com/topic/quartermaster), but I'm not sure as this appears to be about logistics. And R&C translates it as intendant m militaire de troisième classe, which, if accurate, wouldn't apply as commissaires des armées are definitely not de troisième classe. They're among the top officers of their regiment.

Any help gratefully received, comme d'hab.

I hope you won't mind my choosing not to have to award points...

Military Quartermaster /US: Officer/ cum-Purser
Explanation:
I think Quartermaster is a fair fit whilst 'Purser' - cf. a UK private school bursar - could be included in the equation,

Commissiare de la Marine > Naval Supply Officer> Harrap's FRE/ENG

RAF > QuarterMaster & Purser

No sweat about the lack of points - is likely to stop needless squabblinh anyway.

Notes to answerer
Asker: Thanks, Adrian. I'd seen the ProZ ref. but wasn't convinced. On the other hand, "adjutant general officer" in your US Army reference is close.

Asker: Thanks again!
