German term or phrase: abgelöst

In a Swiss Social security statement in German, in a sentence describing a change in payment for people receiving partial Swiss pension benefits but living abroad, there is this sentence:

"Infolge der Zivilstandsänderung wird die bis zu diesem Ereignis gewährte Rente abgelöst."

The verb "ablösen" has many translations into English and I wanted to ask what other translators thought the most accurate would be in this context. Does it mean the already paid pension benefits must be paid back?

abloesen ist nicht aufloesen! There is no need to worry about implied repayment, etc.

Explanation:
If you compare the German version of the Swiss pension law against the French version (see links), you will see that the French version uses "succédant" (in pt. 15.14.4 and many other instances). The equivalent in EN is "the successor", in the meaning of "The pension granted before the change in civil status is succeeded". Having said that, I think "replace" does the job as well, but the more precise term is probably "succeed". One pension type is succeeded by another, that's how it goes in Switzerland.
