German term or phrase: Erklärungsanteil
I am translating a Powerpoint presentation with target group market research results and this term comes up a few times, eg. Umsatz-erklärungsanteil, Erklärungsanteil der Kompetenzfelder, usw.

I cannot find a suitable translation in Internet.

thanks!

correlation
Explanation:
I have a hunch that this term refers to a correlation expressed as a percentage or a coefficient.

At any rate, this would fit with the example provided by the asker in the discussion box:

"Erklärungsanteil von 32 % bezogen auf die Gesamtheit der Studienbewerber/innen"

There are many types of correlations, but they all serve a similar purpose, namely to establish a relationship between two things or phenomena, or between statistical variables that tend to vary. Such a correlation offers an explanation for the data collected in the field, ergo the German word Erklärungsanteil.

Try Googling the German terms Korrelation and Erklärungsanteil together for examples of how the terms are related. For instance, I found a German advertising document with the term in question and this explanation:

Berechnung des Erklärungsanteils: Quadrat des Zusammenhangs (Rangkorrelationskoeffizient ρ=.40) in Prozent

I've added a link to this document below (see p. 10).

For examples of different types of statistical correlations, see https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Correlation_coefficient

Other possible translations:

- correlation coefficient
- correlation factor

...description

Explanation:
First off, marketing research results cannot be a target group, but those evaluating marketing research results can be. :-)

I would think the term refers to descriptions of the varying aspects:

explanatory power (in percentage terms)

Explanation:
Explanatory power is how much of the variance explained.

It's most commonly quoted as a proportion Bestimmtheitsmaß
https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bestimmtheitsmaß

But equivalently it can be quoted as a percentage Erklärungsanteil

I'd probably say "32% of the variance was explained"

Anteil is 'portion' rather than section. Possible is also: 'descriptive portion of competency sectors/fields';
