Italian term or phrase: superlativo di base nominale
I am translating an abstract.
The paper is about the adjective the adjective ἀλγεινός.

At some point the adjective appears in this form ἄλγιστος, which is described by the author as a "superlativo di base nominale".

I have an MA in linguistics, but I have never studied Greek, nor can I read the alphabet and I am having a hard time figuring out what this form is called in English.

nominal basic superlative

Explanation:
I have no knowledge of Greek but here's a web link with details about comparative adjectives in case this might help. I believe there are nominal adjectives whereby in certain cases an adjective could also be a noun.

(Credo che ci siano dei aggettivi comparativi che possono essere dei nomi (dei sostantivi) anche.)
