most eastern point Explanation: I cannot see that there is a real translation of this term into English, in the sentence it seems to relate more to the point furthest east, perhaps where one can place a flag pole... Vardø is the easternmost town in Norway, east of Saint Petersburg, Kiev and Istanbul. Vardø is located at the very Easternmost point of Norway. Vardo is the easternmost city in Norway, located by the Barents sea a couple-of-hours drive from the Russian border. banner post Explanation: Vardøhus has been the military installation closest to Russia where a flag may be raised on military grounds in defiance of the greater nation. Flags need to be drawn at sunset, which can be way before breakfast in those parts, whereas banners can be flown all day or night. Hence this rather liberal interpretation. |

fortification Explanation: I believe this would be a good solution. Vardøhus was erected as a fortification around 1300. I was also thinking of "stronghold" as a term to use, but that might be a little too strong. Example sentence(s):
