I would have suggested 'styling techniques' but I would imagine that that would be 'técnicas del peinado'.

In the 1960s women used to talk about 'shampoo and set' but I associate that to putting rollers in your hair and sitting under the hairdryer.

This afternoon I asked my hairdresser the difference between 'peinado' and 'marcado'. He said that 'peinado' is the method you choose for styling hair: fingers, hand-held dryer, traditional hair dryers, rollers, etc. and 'marcado' is 'el peinado "trabajado" con el cepillo y el secador'.

I don't know if that helps at all.
