Spanish term or phrase: fondo perdido
Hi, I need advice on the translation of "fondo perdido" in the context of CDTS aids and grants. This is the paragraph where it appears.

El fondo perdido se hará efectivo mediante las coutas de dicho crédito, pudiendo solicitar que dicho fondo perdido cubra las primeras coutas y ....

Possible translations:
Non-refundable credit
Non-refundable tranche
sunk costs

None of these do sound quite correct in this context. "The non-refundable tranche/sunk costs will be effective ...."

Thanks in advance.

subsidy

Explanation:
In the sample sentence provided, I'd probably just translate it as subsidy, unless there was a pressing reason to expand upon it.
It is a type of subsidy, sometimes translated as "non-refundable subsidy", or "sinking fund" as in phil's reference, although I must admit that's a new one on me.
Although commonly extended from government, the term subsidy can relate to any type of support – for example from NGOs or as implicit subsidies.
Perhaps it depends on the culture you come from - I've never thought of subsidies having to be paid back, perceiving them as more like a grant than anything else.

Example sentence(s):
  • Received a non-refundable subsidy from EU funds...
  • ... business are obliged to request a non-refundable subsidy...

lost fund

Explanation:
It could also be a subsidy, grant or subvention (formal subsidy), perhaps allowance.
'The allowance will take effect through times of such credit, being able to request for such a lost fund or subsidy to cover the first time costs.'
