Qué es: Una fina línea que recorre una tela base más oscura, habitualmente en gris, azul o negro.
Cómo surge: Su origen más comentado está en la banca, cuando los altos cargos añadieron rayas para diferenciar sus trajes de los del resto de trabajadores.

Su origen lo encontramos en la Inglaterra del siglo XIX, en la que los banqueros vestían chaqué como uniforme de trabajo (ya sabéis, levita lisa + pantalón milrayas). Para diferenciar a los empleados, cada banco comenzó a variar las rayas del pantalón, dando lugar al germen de la raya diplomática actual. De ahí, saltaría ha EE.UU, en los años 20 y 30, en plena época de la Ley Seca, donde personajes como Al Capone lo popularizaron en los speakeasies en forma de traje completo.
