maxat

Det kanske låter maxat, men många hade gärna jobbat mer än så.

Is this "exaggerated", "crazy" or "trite"?

Almost sounds as though they've borrowed the English word in the sense of "maxed out".

It would be helpful to see the previous source sentence.

I am assuming the speaker said they work a lot more than 40h/week i.e. the point they are making is that many others would like to work even longer hours, despite it already sounding like an excessive amount (an amount that should perhaps been seen as the maximum number of working hours).

I put low confidence as the broader context may be pointing in another direction.
Example sentence:

Det låter maxat men enligt xxxx fungerar det som...

agree Paul Gratwick : I agree with Tania that context is required.
