Bio
Hi everyone.
I'm Andres Barros from Ecuador. I grew up bilingual because my family moved to England when I was 7 years old, and I learned the English language through immersion in school and all other everyday activities.

I actually began interpreting as a child, but I just didn't know it. My mother never really became fluent. She was maybe too shy to seek out English-speaking friends. Anyway, since she couldn't understand movies and TV shows, it was my duty to interpret the movies she watched simultaneously. I did that for the 3 years and a half I lived in England, an average of 2 movies per night, every night. This, without me knowing so, gave a tremendous amount of fluency, vocabulary and listening practice.

I began working as a free-lance interpreter in 2007, accompanying an academic from Lybia during his short visit in Ecuador. My work has not been constant since I was focused mostly on language teaching. Being encouraged by North American doctors during a couple of volunteering assignments, I decided to get my certificate in English and Spanish medical translation, which I now proudly hold. I also worked on sight-reading medical forms and can translate medical documents.

Although my interpreting/translating education began recently, and is focused on medicine, due to my career (Business Administration) and my interests (language, science, economics, politics, finance, arts) I am capable of writing translations in from English to Spanish (and vice versa) very quickly and precisely, with minimum need for checking sources such as professional dictionaries. I also speak intermediate Chinese and Japanese, and I have done translations in said languages, but evidently, the time I need is longer that it would be in English, and although I feel competent enough to translate websites, touristic information or even business contracts, I would not yet venture into sciences and medicine, which are more complex fields.

I am looking to gain experience and create long lasting working relationships.
