Ya desde un punto de vista semántico lo moderno se identifica con lo nuevo y presupone, con ello, un principio revolucionario de ruptura, esto es, de crítica, renovación y cambio. La modernidad es una edad histórica de transformaciones y quebrantamientos; es consustancial con la crisis. Modernidad, crisis y progreso son los términos de la ecuación que distingue a nuestro tiempo.
