I suppose CPN means Certified Pro Network. I have been a Proz member since 2007, but I’ve never applied for the Pro seal, so I don’t know if it makes a difference.

I agree the poll should have used the full name or have a link or something.
For one not having had a formal translation training, It has been useful in some instances.

I'm guessing that the large vote for "Other" (56.7% as I write) reflects the people like me who didn't know what CPN stands for when they voted.
Another great poll from ProZ staff.

The CPN badge adds a colourful splotch next to one's name, nothing else.
And the process to get one is amateurish at best: you submit a translation of an excerpt you pick yourself (!) and then one peer from that pair pool of CPN translators reviews it. The badge is then awarded - or not - based exclusively on that review.

At some point, I was even one of the reviewers in my pairs, but had to stop eventually because of the pathetic quality of some of the translations submitted.
I remember one in which a list of "Yes" (and possibly "No") answers made up most of the earth-shattering exchanges in what was supposed to be a dialogue.
No idea what happened after I submitted my review on that, so you never know, that 'professional' could still be around, enjoying their CPN badge and hard-earned status. ▲ Collapse

I didn't know what CPN was, and use of undefined abbreviations is one of my bugbears, so it put me off from the outset.

Not very important.
Edit: aha, the Certified ProZ Network! Well, a bit; some clients on the job board require it.
