German term
Ursachemangel
German to English
Law/Patents
Law: Contract(s)
From the Allgemeine Einkaufsbedingungen of a manufacturing company (the Besteller) in relation to the companies (Auftragnehmer) from which it buys parts.
"Der Auftragnehmer ist im übrigen bei einem Ursache- oder Rechtsmangel nach den gesetzlichen Vorschriften der Minderung des Kaufpreises oder zum Rücktritt des Vertrags berechtigt. Außerdem hat der Besteller nach den gesetzlichen Vorschriften Anspruch auf Schadens- und Aufwendungsersatz."
Incidentally, "der Minderung des Kaufpreises" makes no sense to me unless it is a typo for "zu einer Minderung des Kaufpreises" - but my more specific concern is that "Ursachemangel" gets not a single Google, so what is one to make of Ursache- oder Rechtsmangel?

I did a google search on "Sach- und Rechtsmangel", and found many references. No hits on Ursache(n)mangel.
It must be a typo after all. In which case my answer (lack of causation) is wrong :(
Sachmangel is a defect (of quality).

: Ursachemangel has got to do with class action suits where there is a differentiation made between general and specific causes. That doesn't seem to be the case here so I too tend to regard it as Sachmangel.

4 KudoZ points awarded for this answer.
Comment: "I'm pretty well convinced that this is indeed a typo for Sachmangel - so really the points should go to Kim, who first suggested this, but my thanks to everyone who responded."

Langenscheidt, but yes, Kim is correct -- a citation would be helpful
