Source text - English For the Dutch the five years of Nazi occupation were years of tremendous struggle. After promising Holland neutrality, Hitler's mighty war machine began its siege in the early morning of May 10, 1940. The Dutch army fought valiantly but after the massive destruction of Rotterdam by the Nazi air force on May 14 Holland was forced to surrender. Hitler planned to capture Queen Wilhelmina and the 11 cabinet members of the Dutch government but they escaped to England. From there the Queen and Dutch officials broadcast radio messages over the BBC throughout the five years of Nazi occupation.
Translation - Danish For hollænderne var de fem år under nazistisk besættelse en kolossal kamp. Efter at have lovet Holland neutralitet begyndte Hitlers mægtige krigsmaskine sin belejring i de tidlige morgentimer den 10. maj 1940. Den hollandske hær kæmpede tappert, men efter den massive ødelæggelse af Rotterdam forårsaget af det nazistiske luftvåben den 14. maj, blev Holland tvunget til at overgive sig. Hitler planlagde at tage dronning Wilhelmina og de 11 ministre i den hollandske regering til fange, men de flygtede til England. Under den fem år lange besættelse sendte dronningen og hollandske embedsmænd derfra radiobeskeder ud via BBC.
