앨 고어(59) 전 미국 부통령이 출연한 은 지난 2월 아카데미영화제에서 최우수 다큐멘터리상을 받았다. 2000년 대선에서 조지 부시 공화당 후보에 안타깝게 패한 정치인으로 잊혀지던 고어는 세계적 환경운동가로 거듭 났다. 평론가들은 “올해 아카데미의 색깔은 (환경운동을 상징하는) 녹색이었고, 주인공은 앨 고어였다”며 찬사를 늘어놨다. 아카데미만이 환경문제에 주목한 것은 아니다. 올해 노벨평화상 수상자는 고어와 유엔정부간기후변화협의체(IPCC)였다. “인간이 만든 기후변화에 대한 지식을 축적하고 알렸으며, 이런 변화에 대처하기 위해 필요한 수단을 마련하는 기초를 닦았다”는 이유였다. 세계 평화 기여도를 결정지을 만큼, 지구온난화 등 환경문제가 국제사회에서 초미의 관심사가 된 것이다.

Source text - Korean 서울시는 서울을 찾는 외국인들이 내집처럼 편안하게 머물며 WDC행사와 관광을 즐길 수 있도록 숙박대책을 마련하여 추진할 것이다. 2002년 월드컵을 기준으로 할때 서울의 1일 최대 숙박수요는 약 62,818 명으로 산정되었고 총 관광호텔은 114개소(객실수 20,694실)로 산정되었다. 일반 여관까지 포함하는 경우, 서울을 찾는 외국인에게 제공되는 잠재적인 숙박시설은 총 4,500업소 100,000객실이 준비되어 있으며, 서울시는 WDC관련 입국자들에게 편의를 제공하기 위해 다양한 숙박시설 제공과 서비스 수준 향상에 노력을 기울일 것이다.
