Description:Presentation reviews variety of issues involved in providing price/timeframe estimates for a proposed translation project. Several types of pricing and their applicability are analyzed, as well as numerous factors to be taken into consideration when setting translation price, such as form of presentation and content of the source material, special requirements, type(s) of effort required from the translator, timeframe, price prerequisites for quality and timely delivery and consequences caused by inaccurate pricing. Detailed analysis of translation operations for various project types is provided as a basis for mark-ups and surcharges. Special attention is given to the allocation and distribution of costs between the translator and the agency with emphasis on value-added services concept.

From 1973 to 1989, a systems analyst and senior research associate, Information Retrieval Systems Department at the Ukrainian Institute of Scientific and Technical Information (Kyiv, Ukraine) and from 1990 to 2000, Manager, Production and Product Development, for the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics (New York, NY). Freelance Russian and Ukrainian legal and technical translator and interpreter since 1975. Currently, Mr. Vesler is an independent consultant (Diken Research, New York, NY). Education: B.S. (Electronic Engineering) and M.S. (Information Systems). Major areas of activity include integrated language support for large- and medium-scale projects, including technical and legal translation, multilingual document and terminology management and information/data processing technology. In 1991, established Diken Research, translation and information services company assisting U.S. Government and major U.S. companies and law firms in their projects in Russia, Ukraine, and Kazakhstan. Major industries include oil and gas, nuclear engineering, aerospace engineering and missile technology, disarmament and non-proliferation, banking and project financing, and international law. Developed Russian Court Interpreter Tests implemented in the U.S. state court system. Accredited by ATA in English-to-Russian language pair and by Berlitz International as Engish/Ukrainian court interpreter. ATA Certification Committee member and ATA Grader. Member of ATA, ITA, and AIAA.
