Discussion

spanruss Jun 28, 2007:
Actually, the most common term used for this is "peripelvic"
spanruss Jun 28, 2007:
This should be "pelviureteral". In Torres' "Diccionario de términos médicos", it says the pelviureteral is "Relativo a la pelvis renal y al uréter".

I think Álvaro has a good point. \"Parapyelic\" doesn\'t get too many hits. \"Pyelic\" is in this dictionary: http://www.mercksource.com/pp/us/cns/cns_hl_dorlands.jspzQzp...

...and does relate to the pelvis.

pyelic (py·el·ic) (pi-el¢ik) pertaining to the pelvis of the kidney.

disagree spanruss : When there are 9000 hits in Spanish and only 785 for "parapyelic", one should really be dubious. Also, many of those hits are from PubMed, notorious for incorrect literal translations.

parapelvic cyst / renal sinus cyst / parapelvic lymphangiectasia / pelvic cyst

Hi chamito,

I think it's better to await confirmation from a specialist, but this is what I found as the more commonly accepted names in English. The pyelos is the renal pelvis. Below is the definition of a parapelvic cyst:

Cyst, parapelvic,
(also called renal sinus cyst, pelvic cyst, peripelvic cyst or parapelvic lymphangiectasia), are found at 12% of autopsies. Patients are usually in their fifth or sixth decades and are almost always asymptomatic. There are rare instances of obstruction of a collecting system. Pathogenesis is not established; however, lymphatic ectasia is proposed, possibly secondary to lymphatic obstruction. Sonography will show multiple echo-free areas in the region of the renal sinus. Differentiation from hydronephrosis may be difficult and renal sinus cysts are one of the most common causes of a false positive diagnosis of hydronephrosis on ultrasound. A diagnosis of hydronephrosis is established without question when dilated calyces are seen to communicate with a dilated renal pelvis. On CT (Fig.1) renal sinus cysts have the attenuation value of water. On non-enhanced scans multiple renal sinus cysts resemble a dilated renal pelvis and thus mimic hydronephrosis. On contrast-enhanced scans and on intravenous urography, the nondilated inundibulae and pelvis will be stretched and compressed by and curve between multiple renal sinus cysts. Differential considerations include renal sinus lipomatosis (fat density), lymphoma, haemorrhage and urinoma.

As I say, better await confirmation that we are speaking of the same thing.

Good luck!

Álvaro :O) :O)

disagree Cecilia Della Croce : yo no cambiaría pyelic por pelvic, Álvaro... Un saludo// That's the thing.

peripelvic

Too late for points, but this is a no-brainer, when you see how many hits there are, and take into account that "peri-" and "para-" are used interchangeably, varying depending upon the specific term.

Parapelvic, per the reference discovered by Chema below.
Peer comment(s):

neutral Chema Nieto Castañón : Just curiously enough, there is actually a difference between parapelvic and peripelvic cysts! https://radiopaedia.org/articles/renal-sinus-cyst // Yes; "parapelvic cysts" would be my bet here.

Excellent reference Chema! Considering the original description uses the word "simple" in Spanish, it seems like your link (using "simple' in English) supports this actually being "parapelvic cyst". Do you agree?
