Übersetzer und Dolmetscher

German

You'd better post this questions in the language pairs you're looking for.

The funny thing is that the syllables "tal", "tol" and "Dol" from the Dutch and German words vertaler, tolk and Dolmetscher related are and language mean. the syllables tal, tol and dol are as well related to English tell, tale, telltale (!) and of course fairy tale, folk tale.
A Dolmetscher is literal a language maker, where metsch is an ald form of make, related to Fries meitsje, English make, Dutch maken and German machen.

Übung macht Dolmetscher ... er ... Meister

french italian swedish

French: traducteurs et interprètes
Italian: traduttori ed interpretatori
Swedish: översättare och tolkare

I can imagine you want to be certain, but isn't there some internet tool for this? Granted, one could never be sure AND never forget you can never just paste these into a sentence because of declinations.

Anyway, sometime tomorrow I can get it to you in Bulgarian and Russian (colleague translator / editor of course, not some dodgy acquaintance :-)

Good luck
Peer comment(s):

disagree Alex Temmingh : Swedish must be: tolkar (tolkare = interpreter of music, a role and so on)

Correct, I checked again. Small oversight, I'm sorry.

tradukistoj kaj interpretistoj

Ik dacht dat de brave man zijn vraag zou stellen in de verschillende groepen, maar hij is er natuurlijk van overtuigd dat Nederlanders en Vlamingen perfecte polyglotten zijn en hem al het nodige kunnen leveren ;-)

This is the translation in Esperanto.
Peer comment(s):

agree Henk Peelen : Dat blijkt dus zo te zijn. Ik weet niet eens waar Esper ligt, en jij vertaalt er naar. Zamen hofleverancier worden, lijkt het doel van dit vertalen.
