To Rita: I suggested \"to sit an exam\". I only mentioned what to \"pass an exam\" is in French because it is a faux ami and can cause confusion.

it really means having completed the necessary coursework to be allowed to take the French Baccalaureat examinations - which, of course, are a series of subject-specific exams.
