More literally, "I'd like to take this opportunity..." but I think this a bit "floreado".
I think that this wording, and the passive structure in the last part of the sentence, sounds a bit more natural in English.

Pero como aquí se trata de una adopción y la carta es más personal que de negocios, te sugiero lo que puse arriba.
