German term (edited): Wie so oft verlaeuft der Koenigsweg zwischen den beiden Lagern

As is so often true, the middle way is the best route forward.

the happy medium is somewhere between the 2 extremes

Peer comment(s):

neutral Armorel Young : medium is by definition the thing in the middle, so once you've referred to "happy medium" the rest of this is superfluous - as it is it's a bit like saying "the middle is between the two ends" :-)

logically true but rather an oversimplification

as is so often the case, the answer lies somewhere in the middle

agree Ulrike Kraemer : The question is still open (6th April 2008). :-((( // Which is a pity. How about the "Flag or filter this asker" option? I've got a long list of "filtered" colleagues. I enjoy answering questions but I'm no more keen on wasting my time than you are. :-)

Thanks, LB. One of a number of factors influencing my decision last August not to contribute any more answers on this forum.
