старение мощностей, оборудования

Russian to English Other Energy / Power Generation
При существующих темпах старения мощностей и ожидаемой динамике потребления электроэнергии через несколько лет может возникнуть дефицит резерва генерирующих мощностей.

I'm especially interested in terms "старение мощностей" and "дефицит резерва генерирующих мощностей".
And a small question connected with this one: can I use the same word "старение" (I mean its English equivalent) for both equipment and capacities?

ageing of capacities/equipment

With the existing/current capacities ageing rate and the expected trends in electric power consumption, a shortage of generating capacities reserve may arise/be observed in a few years.

neutral sergey (X) : 'ageing capacity' is ok, say, 'wine's ageing capacity' 'ageing of capacity' sounds strange to me. capacity can increase or decrease, but not age, in my view. equipment can age though

Maybe, not "capacities", but "facilities" or "plants"

IMO, the word can be used with either of them.
