Discussion

marybro Apr 6, 2006:
all decimals must be carried out 4 decimal places for consistency. This varies in the U.S. by district, as you see by my example below, carried out 5 decimal places, or to the "hundredth-thousandth".
marybro Apr 6, 2006:
"Diezmilesimos" mean ten-thousandths. But the question in my mind for translation purposes is: why "ten-thousandth" digit, in this case, "zero"is emphasized, vs. the "thousandth" digit (in this case, "two"). It may be that for assessment/valuation...
marybro Apr 6, 2006:
when talking about decimals : .4020 four hundred two thousandths or four thousand twenty ten thousandths is the same expression.
Juan Jacob Apr 6, 2006:
Pues sí, muyyy extraño. Sólo existen centavos, no centésimas ni milésimas de. ¿Segura, Xenia?
SandraV Apr 6, 2006:
En mi vida había visto algo así en México...

I read this as:

nine "point" four zero two "thousandths" per thousand of assessed valuation

in the U.S. property tax rates are quoted per thousand of ASSESSED valuation

Property tax rate: $17.04857 per 1,000 of assessed valuation (2005)

HTH or alternatively, I would read the example, 9.4020 as:

nine and (or point) four hundred two thousandths. In this case the ten-thousandth digit is zero if it said 9.4025 I would say nine and (or point) four thousand twenty-five ten-thousandths
