grandson on the part of grandfather's brother OR grand-nephew.

In English there is no distinction between uncle on the part of the mother (wujek) and the uncle on the part of the father (stryjek). Correspondingly, amu relationships derived from these two (move it up a generation, the situation is the same) are based on differentiating these uncles in a descriptive fashion.

If you decide to use Grand-nephew, it will work well in this context because we know from whose perspective we can name the relationship (the man who was "rozwiedziony dosc wczesnie...). But it is specific to each situation.
