French term

opérations / exploitation

French to English Tech/Engineering Aerospace / Aviation / Space Airline
I'm trying to find terms which might differentiate these - the client seems to say they are more or less the same thing but is not really forthcoming about any difference. The only real clue I have is that 'opérations' comes under the heading of 'exploitation' ( and 'exploitation' also comes under the same heading).

The subject is quality assurance procedures.

Any ideas would be most welcome. Thanks!

or specific even!

Based on your comments to Tony, how about being more specifice then -
'Operations: Ground' or 'Operations: Ground Sector'

Tricky one, Alain!

I very often find that "operation(s)" is the best solution for "exploitation", so what can you use that's different for "opérations"?

If it is a subset of "exploitation", in the context, could you qualify it as a specific KIND of "operation", something like "flight operations", "passenger operations", etc.?

I think it would be acceptable to talk about "flight operations" if the overall context of ground activities is clear.

Alternatively, maybe consider "flight ground operations", or else change "opérations" to "activities" (with or without a qualifier)

I don't imagine you can get away with "air-side operations", that'd prolly be over-interpreting?
Note from asker:
Thanks Tony! That's my problem exactly. I had thought of 'flight operations' in fact - by deduction but then thought this might be dangerous as the whole section is entitled 'Partie sol'. On the other hand these 'opérations' are all about the flights themselves so although there's an apparent contradiction that may be my only way out.

Efharisto, Assimina!
agree Julie Barber : I agree with giving it a specific name for exploitation - ie: if it was in relation to agriculture, it can be the 'farm' ! if not it could simply be 'operating' too...operations/operating

fonctionnement / exploitation

l'équipement doit d'abord être en fonctionnement pour être exploité, l'exploitation est plus vaste et couvre des choses en plus de la façon dont tourne l'équipement
