return-based taxes
Aangiftebelastingen are taxes paid by the tax return method. See the algemene wet inzake rijksbelastingen (link below) for more.
-> "A minimum 14-day period has been formulated for return-based systems, with payroll tax, debits tax and rental business duty in mind. These taxes usually require the lodgment of monthly returns."

-> "This article argues that the Panel was right to retain a return-based tax system, given thePanel’s recommendations for major tax simplification. As long as the return filing obligation is not unduly burdensome–which it would not be under the Panel’s simplification proposals–a filing obligation has significant civic virtues."

income tax return
It seems to me that it should be two separate words: e.g. *aangifte inkomstenbelasting* (no plural either).

Sorry! Not necessarily *inkomsten*, could be *vermogensbelasting* as well :-)
In that case it could be *tax declaration*.

Note from asker:
Hi Inge. No it is definitely 'aangiftebelastingen'. These are taxes for which you have to fill in a form and then pay the amount concerned, as opposed to BTW etc. |

tax payable after filing tax return
Your tax return is a belastingaangifte. Based on this, the tax authorities calculate the tax payable.

Well, just use tax payable/due/owing, if you prefer.

Particularly if you have already referred to the tax return in your text.

Note from asker:
I was hoping there was a nice short English term for this, just like in Dutch. |
