French term

Directeur du Contrôle de Gestion

Non-PRO French to English Other Management
This is on a list of job titles. The other titles seem pretty finance/accounting related.

Probably pretty straightforward...but it has been a long week. :-)

TIA!

Discussion

Julie Barber Jun 16, 2007:
I think that you need to have 'controller' in there (not control) and obviously director. A solution could be 'Finance Controller / Director'

Julie Barber Jun 16, 2007:
if it's in a financial context, then gestion is commercial management/business analysis, not management in the general sense
Hattie Hill (asker) Jun 15, 2007:
Management Auditing??
Hattie Hill (asker) Jun 15, 2007:
That is how I've translated it for the time being, but there aren't that many google hits with that (not that google is the bible...) and I was wondering if there was a less "literal" term in English. Thanks!!

Management controller

litterally translated: Management control director. I doubt, that this expression is used.

The Management Controller’s Job: When Ambiguity Leads to Job Crafting
..
Given this starting point the author attempts to make some kind of reconciliation between what the controller is expected to do according to academic prescriptions of his/her role, and what the controller actually does. Her literature review gives recognition to the traditional notion of controller as ‘controller’, enforcing organizational controls through the collection and provision of information in order to ensure achievement of goal congruence and hence ultimately enhancing organizational performance. In addition, the author also highlights emerging notions of the controller as ‘consultant’.

agree rkillings : This is what you'll see in the recruitment listings. Ironically, a Sr Mgt Controller probably reports to *the* Controller, i.e. the head of the department of Mgt Control!

Thank you for this piece of information. Then you would only propose "controller"?

Take a look at this article for confirmation: http://www.edicas.fr/site/fin.cgi?TypeJ=20060223094715&journ...

It's an interview with the "président de l’Association nationale des directeurs financiers et de contrôle de gestion", and at one point he says : "Le contrôle de gestion, terme dont je rappelle qu’il est la traduction de l’anglais « financial control »..."

This is another article that confirms that the term "Director of Financial Control" is widely used. It also explains that there is a real difference between a Financial Controller (FC) and an FD (Finance Director), to whom the FC generally reports: http://www.equityfc.com/content_files/files/RealFinanceArtic...
