How the Relaxer Works
Hydroxide products are alkaline with a pH of 10.5–13.5. Sodium hydroxide has a heavy cream base with 2–3 per cent sodium hydroxide formulation. When chemically relaxing hair with hydroxide, the disulphide bonds between the keratin protein chains and the matrix must be broken before the hair can be reformed.
