Poetry & Literature
The story begins in 1678, whan Italian anatomist Stefano Lorenzini described pores that speckled the forward part of the head of sharks and rays, endowing them with something resembling a bad five-o'clock shaddow. He noted that the pores concentrated around shark's mouth and found that if he pealed back the neighboring skin, each opening led to a long transparent tube that was filled with a crystalline gel.
Речь об ампулах Лоренцини, но что это за five-o'clock shaddow, может, просто косые оттенки кожи под углом стрелки, указывающей 5 часов?

In a message to my favorite down under correspondant I said I had a bad case of 'five o'clock shadow' since I got up and around so early this morning. I don't know if this phrase that means a growth of stubble that appears later on in the day is the product of US advertising or is part of the global lexicon. Do all of you who shave get this affliction?
