Dutch term

motorische vaardigheden

Non-PRO Not for points Dutch to English Other Education / Pedagogy
Ik kom uit op motor skills. Misschien klopt dit wel, het klinkt echter zo vreemd. Is dit zo goed vertaald?

thank you all! Bedankt allemaal. Motor skills is de aangewezen term, maar ik blijf er een Harley Davidson associatie bij houden.

Nah, chaps, it's gotta be "motor skills" :-)

Further to Sander's perfectly reasonable observation about Google statistics, we can refine the searches further:

"motor skills" + "child development" - 390,000 hits
"motorical skills" + "child development" - 8 hits
"motory skills" + "child development" - 5 hits
"motorial skills" + "child development" - 5 hits

agree lexispro : Motor skills is the general term used in education - in South Africa at any rate.

agree Ken Cox : also common in the US

Thanks, Ken.
agree Erik Brinkhof : I completely agree, but beware for Google's statics: the "results" counts are extremely unreliable (error margins of > 90% occur) and "motor skills" includes sites about skills related to cars and motors!

Thanks, Sander. I agree that Google needs to be taken with a big pinch of salt, but in this case the numbers are fairly overwhelming.
agree Deborah do Carmo : Of course it's motor skills - in education, fine motor skills and gross motor skills (a.k.a. large motor skills) are tested in a variety of ways from a very early age

agree Marijke Singer : Completely agree especially with Lawyer-Linguist

motorial skills

Just google it, or consult a good dictionary. Quite a few web references for 'motorical skills' and 'motory skills', too, but in my humble opinion 'motorial' is the correct adjectival form.

agree Andre de Vries : I don't think we need an adjective :-) after all we can string nouns together and no one minds

motory skills, motorial skills

I prefer motory skills. Motory is used in medicine for "motorisch".

Neil Cross is absolutely right: it is "motor skills".

motorics

Why do you need the 'skills' at the end?
Motorics is the entire system, dus ook the skills.
