Discussion

R. Alex Jenkins Jan 23, 2008:
The Kudoz server is creaking under the strain of so many good answers :))
Mónica Sauza Jan 23, 2008:
Richard, sometime last week it even changed the language pairs!! I don't know if someone else noticed this.
R. Alex Jenkins Jan 23, 2008:
Yes, questions are coming and going at a rate of knots. Odd.
Noni Gilbert Riley Jan 23, 2008:
Whoah, yes, like Claudia P I've been experiencing disappearing acts. And this would explain why there are so many repeat answers coming up for postings.
¿Se trata de teatro, de cine o de TV, específicamente? Porque el término varía según el medio. "Pre-screening" es el que más he oído para el cine. Mientras que las opciones de Noni sirven para teatro.
Claudia Pesce Jan 23, 2008:
LOL! One of my answers to another question just DISAPPEARED! Watch out, everybody!
Mónica Sauza Jan 23, 2008:
Claudia, I noticed that a couple of days ago!
Sp-EnTranslator Jan 23, 2008:
the system is going berserk -- anyone noticed?

dress rehearsal/preview/press night

Thanks.
neutral Sp-EnTranslator : dress rehearsal would be ensayo general, and as you say it's usually a disaster. All in all I think Edward's is the most accurate, considering context.(I take it to be a film pre-screening :-)

Pre-showing

I think these are the words you are looking for :)

The 'pre-showing' would be the showing of the film BEFORE it's launched to the public, shown to critics, journalists etc...

Pre-premiere

You use pre-premiere.
As my other partner explained before, "premiere" just means "estreno" in spanish, so you need to put "pre-" before "premiere" to make "pre-premiere" whcih means "pre-estreno"
Example sentence:

The first real Slovenian snowboard movie celebrates it’s pre-premiere at the Itak Rail Jam in Maribor

Peer comment(s):

agree Maria Kisic : also pre-showing

or a show is aired on tv.

AVANT premiere, in French - most definetly. Here is the definition:
http://www.presse-francophone.org/apfa/defi/a/avantpre.htm

For english, I think "premiere" would suffice.

Thank you, Monica. Avant-premiere would be correct primarily for French audiences. In the U.S. "premiere" is largely used. It seems the movie has past the changing stage and it's being shown for the first time.
