the engines of this vehicle are defined as its "cuore pulsante". i know what they mean but i can't think of an appropriate figure of speech.

Much more context please Paul, the metaphor applies to the engines of all vehicles. Why are they saying this, what is the context. Is it a 20 ton artic or a three wheel sewing machine?
