Greek to English Art/Literary Poetry & Literature short story

' [...] και έπειτα τράβηξε το κούφιο ξύλο του παραθύρου με το λεπτό τζάμι που ούρλιαζε πάντα ενοχλητικά όταν φυσούσε.'
' [...] and then pulled the hollow wood of the window with the thin pane that always rattled annoyingly when it was windy.'
'Wailed' sounds a bit funny here if we are talking about the window pane, although as I understand it the wailing is transferred to the wind howling through the window. At the moment I have changed it to 'rattled' to make it sound logical in English, as a pane can't wail. Any ways round this?
